Basic Tabla Beats
The 1st beat of the cycle is the sum, all improvisations, breaks, and set rhythms will end on the sum.
There is a clapping systems which is used to help keep the time, either it is a clap, Tali, or an open/silent clap, Khali. The Tali or Khali will be the first beat of each section. So with Teental there is a Tali on the 1st, 5th, 13th beat, and on the 9th is a khali.
wave = no clap, the hand does a small wave in the air to show the Khali (9th beat)
The fingers touch the palm for all the other beats, 2, 3, 4 etc.
clap, 2, 3, 4, clap, 6, 7, 8, wave, 10, 11, 12, clap, 14, 15, 16.
